Garments for threshold moments

I work with people who want to have something beautiful made to mark a significant moment; for themselves or as a gift. Clothing can give us a way to make an internal change into a visible external one- into a beautiful item that we can wear or use to keep us connected to a purpose, intention or way of being.

I love to work with people who are crossing a threshold- be that spiritual, metaphorical or literal, like retirement, or the birth of a child or a new marriage, or even a new home. I have also created garments to help mark the smaller thresholds like stepping into daily prayer, into performance or moving

from work to rest.

Kathryn's Shawl

To mark leaving a work place.

Kathryn had been a core part of the Navigate faciltation co-operative for a long time.

Upon her moving on from the coop her colleagues wanted to give her something special to mark her transition and to thank her for her time as such an integral part of the organisation.

The brief requested that I feature the colour teal as it's significant to Navigate because they are interested Teal Organisation principles. And for the shawl to feature the Navigate Logo.

This double thickness Linen shawl features the applique Navigate flying geese logo and kantha quilting techniques to make the garment feel luxury and weighted - like a hug!

Yasu's Robe

To wear in Ceremony

Yasu and I have collaborated in Spring 2024 to create a garment for her to wear in Cermony and to put on each day when she meditates. I am yet to do a photo shoot- so watch this space for pics.

Our collaborative process has involved in depth conversation about the uses of the garment and creative exploration of what shapes would support her practically, emotionally and spiritually. Our sessions and allowed her vision to slowly and carefully materialise.

We went through several design stages and enjoyed a few fabric shopping trips together to find the right weight and texture of fabric to use. The final design was a bespoke pattern made specifically to Yasu's requirements and includes internal pockets for specific precious items, and printed emblums inside with spiritual significance.

Yasu now wears this jacket on her explorations of the inner and spiritual realms.

Sara's Kanfot

For her Hebrew Priestess ordination ceremony

Sara and I worked together over a few weeks in 2023 to choose design elements for her Kanfot which is a ceremonial shawl. We chose to dye it with pomegranate skins (Pomegranates have particular significance in the Jewish faith). We also chose animals to accompany her in her ordination and I created lino prints to go in the corners- the neckline included a phrase from the Torah chosen by Sara and translated into English and the back of the neckline featured protective symbols and plants alongside a small section of Hebrew. The garment was made from Organic cotton satin and the applique sections were made from purple cotton that Sara provided- pre-loved fabric that had some previous ceremonial significance and vintage silk.

Sara wore the Kanfot for her Ordination ceremony in the United States in Summer 2023.
